Seedream 5 pro vs Nano Banana Pro vs GPT Image 2

There's a new challenger in the AI image arena, and it just landed. Seedream 5.0 Pro, ByteDance's latest release, is the freshest name in a space that's been dominated by Google's Nano Banana Pro and OpenAI's GPT Image 2 — and it's arriving with some genuinely different ideas about what an "image model" should even do. So how does the new kid stack up against the two heavyweights?

Let's break it down.

Seedream 5 Pro: The New Arrival Changing the Rules

Seedream 5.0 Pro is the headline act here, and for good reason. Instead of just competing on prettier pixels, ByteDance built it around a completely different premise: editability first. Where most models hand you a flat, finished image and call it a day, Seedream 5.0 Pro generates independently editable layers with PNG transparency — meaning you can actually pull elements apart and refine them after the fact, the way you would in a real design tool.

However, it looks like most API platforms don't have this feature yet (including Influencer Studio, although I'm sure it's coming soon).

On top of that, it brings:

• Grounded, region-precise editing — point, lasso, or sketch a specific area and only that area changes, no full re-rolls of the whole image.

• Native multilingual text in 14 languages, including Arabic, Japanese, Korean, and Thai, with correct native typography rather than translated-and-pasted text.

• Built-in reasoning and web search, letting it pull real facts into infographics and data visualizations instead of hallucinating labels.

• Aggressive pricing — around $0.05 per output image at standard 1k resolution, roughly a fraction of what the other two charge. (Higher resolutions will be double that, we default to 2k resolution inside Influencer Studio).

It's clearly built for people who treat image generation as the start of a workflow, not the end of one: product photography, ad creatives, dense infographics, anything that needs a second pass. Being the newest of the three, it hasn't racked up years of battle-testing yet, but the layer-separation trick alone is something neither Nano Banana Pro nor GPT Image 2 currently offers.

Nano Banana Pro: The Fast, Photorealistic Powerhouse

Nano Banana Pro, built on Google's Gemini 3.0 Pro reasoning backbone, is still the model to beat on raw output quality. It generates native 4K images (up to 4096×4096) in 5–10 seconds, with text accuracy in the 94–96% range and a real "reasoning core" that thinks through lighting, composition, and physical plausibility before it renders.

Where it shines:

• Fast 4K generation for high-volume, high-fidelity work.

• Strong character and style consistency across multiple generations.

• Reliable, near-flawless typography baked into scenes.

Its weak spot next to Seedream 5.0 Pro is that it's more expensive and it's editing skills are not quite as good.

GPT Image 2: The Typography and Layout Specialist

OpenAI's GPT Image 2 remains the go-to when the job is about words and structure — posters, UI mockups, screenshots, branding assets. It supports native 4K, has largely shed the "warm cast" and generic AI look of earlier models, and holds a text accuracy rating above 95%, including multilingual copy.

It handles precise edits like adding, removing, or blending elements while preserving faces reasonably well, but it's noticeably more restrictive in complex editing scenarios compared to the other two — and at roughly $0.15 per high-quality image, it's the priciest of the three by a wide margin, especially next to Seedream's aggressive rates.

Comparison: Editing

Editing is supposedly a strong suit of the Seedream 5 model. We did a quick comparison of the three - with the edit to change the woman's hair color to blonde.

Advanced Editing

Powerful editing started with Seedream 5 pro, let's try it. Basically now you can mark things in the photo itself and edit it with Seedream.

Here's an example

Prompt: Add influencer studio text in the yellow triangle, change her ethnicity to African American in the red circle, and add a Nike logo in the blue circle.

It did one hell of a job!

Just for comparison, here's GPT-image-2 - which also did a pretty good job as well. It just didn't remove the markings.

For this test, we'll compare a few different prompts. Surprisingly, in the first prompt all 3 models looked decent. Seedream 5 Pro looks slightly more "stylized" but all 3 look damn good.

If we're talking about speed, Seedream 5 pro, at least at the 2k resolution, isn't very fast. That's where the other 2 models work a little better.

Although right now things might be a little slow because the new model just came out, we're seeing sometimes up to 120 seconds per generation for Seedream 5 pro. General Nano Banana Pro and GPT image 2 at similar resolutions are 50-60 seconds.

Keep in mind, this might change as the demand slows for Seedream 5, as we've seen Nano Banana Pro and other models speed and slow down depending on demand.

So Which One Wins?

If you're judging purely on performance for the price - Seedream 5 pro seems to be the winner. Its outputs are no longer really lagging behind the other 2 and it's the cheapest of the three.

It's editing powers are also genuinely good... insanely good.

That said, it's still lagging behind on the speed, although I think it will get faster as Bytedance handles the demand.

If you need native 4k resolution, then Seedream 5 is not your best bet, as the other two models have it natively without needing an upscaler.

Our take: yes Seedream 5 is the best model right now, but still, swapping between it, GPT Image 2 and Nano Banana Pro to get great shots is a good idea.
